This innovative concept encourages residents to optimize their private living arrangements. Those with private living spaces averaging no more than 30 m² per person can use the additional shared rooms free of charge. Residents with larger living spaces are incentivized to downsize by moving into smaller flats, converting excess space, or sharing their homes with flatmates. By adopting these measures, participants can enjoy reduced rents while gaining access to an array of shared facilities.
The shared spaces offer diverse amenities, including communal kitchens, workspaces, saunas, guest accommodations, terraces, and children’s playrooms. These additions provide residents with a richer living experience without the need for sprawling private dwellings. By prioritizing collective use over individual excess, WBM+ not only optimizes urban housing but also unlocks new living spaces in city centers, all without resorting to new construction.
This approach directly addresses critical urban challenges such as housing shortages and resource consumption. It reimagines city living as a balance between personal comfort and communal resourcefulness, making it possible for more people to inhabit vibrant urban environments sustainably and affordably.
