The project Landschaftsmetropole proposes a concept for transforming food and food production in the Stuttgart metropolitan region. It aims to transform the Stuttgart region: For a new ecological coexistence of urban and rural people, animals and plants.
The project consists of three building blocks: First, farm shops for organic farms are to be developed and built. The producers can sell their food economically and seasonally in the farm shop. In addition, an app is planned. The idea: all local, organic farms gather in a digital directory. Residents of the region can use the app to find out which farms are in their vicinity. The app also shows which products are currently available and in which farm shop the desired product is available.
Secondly, the concept envisages vertical food farms on motorways. Using high-tech agriculture, local food is produced here to complement the range of products offered by the organic farms. Since the road surfaces are already sealed, this form of agriculture does not need any additional land. The plants could convert the carbon dioxide produced by the vehicles back into oxygen through photosynthesis directly at the point of origin.
The project also includes a mobile event venue. Here, people will be sensitised to a more ecological, healthier and less land-intensive diet through workshops and lectures. The plan is to cook vegetarian, seasonal and local food for people at various locations in the Stuttgart region, for example at market places. The programme is complemented by lectures on the topic and concerts.
Landschaftsmetropole is part of the IBA'27 Stuttgart network.
