In 2013, a large thermal spa was to be built in Werder (Havel). The city had planned to realise this very complex and expensive project together with a private investor. The collaboration failed in 2014 and the construction site was halted shortly before completion. The unfinished building stood empty for over four years.
A citizens' initiative was founded that called for a social community centre instead of a large, luxurious spa. Instead of demolition, undjurekbrüggen initiated a concept for the preservation and conversion of the building. undjurekbrüggen proposed using all the already completed structures to the maximum for the new functions of the community centre - such as: sauna rooms for classrooms of the new primary school, massage rooms for music rooms of the new music school, the water pool for a skate park of the new youth centre, the curved wave pool for a playground of the new kindergarten, the outdoor pool for a stage.
This met with great public approval and was publicised several times. The initiative collected enough signatures, but failed for formal, legal reasons. The project was not realised.
